1:1 Half Day Training
Sometimes a helping hand can make the difference between a good and great life with your pooch. In some circumstances, it can even keep you and pooch together.
Many dog owners invest in standard 1-hour training sessions hoping to see lasting change—but often, these short sessions struggle to deliver meaningful results. One hour simply doesn’t allow enough time to fully assess your dog in real-world situations, explore the underlying causes of behaviour, or cover the theory and lifestyle adjustments that support lasting change.
At Great Paws, we take a different approach. Our 3.5 hour half-day intensive sessions give you the time and space to work comprehensively with your dog.
This format allows us to:
Observe your dog in real-world scenarios to understand their triggers and responses
Cover essential training theory so you fully understand the “why” behind behaviours
Address lifestyle and environmental factors that impact progress
Practice practical training exercises with you, ensuring you can confidently continue at home
The result is a deeper, more thorough understanding of your dog’s needs and behaviours, and a training plan designed to produce real, long-term results, all in a single, focused session.
Understanding what a trainer does NOT do, can be just as valuable as knowing what they do.
Please note we do not offer support with Separation Stress/Anxiety. If you require support with this, please take a look at our "Friends" page where there are some fantastic specialist trainers listed fo this.

1:1 training offers a truly tailored experience for you, your family and most of all your dog.
People and dogs all have different learning styles and sometimes online courses or classes are not the most suitable scenario for you.
Our mission is to help you learn more about your dog and how to work together to achieve your goals. To do this will take commitment on your part. Think of it like having a gym membership with support from a personal trainer, they can advise, guide and show you how to achieve your results, however the hard work and dedication from you is the real key to success. So we will support you with advice, practical demonstration, games and exercises which will achieve your goals so that you can continue to achieve progress and results.
Dog Training often falls into two main categories, "Training" or "Behaviour".
"Training" is what we undertake with dogs (often puppies/young dogs) to help them learn the skills needed for a happy life together. We often utilise classes to help you and pooch learn these, however for some, 1:1 training is a more suitable option.
"Behaviour" is when our dogs have a strong emotional response to a situation or trigger that results in a reaction, which often is not suitable for us or them. This can include barking, lunging, growling, snapping, jumping, snarling, cowering, guarding etc. These responses can often make life challenging and 1:1 support is the right way to help you in tackling these.
1:1 dog training can cover most behavior challenges, foundation life skills, and more. However, we will never take on cases where we do not believe we can support you to the level you or your dog needs. If the issues you are facing require alternative special support, then we will support you in finding the right person.

What does 1:1 half day training include?
There are 3 main phases to our 1:1 half day training session together. Our role is to support and coach you to help you achieve all the skills needed to work with your dog in a happy fun and engaging way.
Phase 1 = Analysis
This phase is where we can get to know much more about your dog, lifestyle and target goals. Upon booking I will contact you to arrange the best location for the session so we can see real world examples of what you wish to tackle and I will also ask lots of questions around the issues you may face. This enables me to fully understand your situation and build more understanding of your dog to put towards our training and behaviour plan.
Phase 2 = Core Knowledge & Training
This phase enables me to explain more about how your dog learns, what motivates them, triggers and causes of any challenges and how we use this information to ensure our practical training plan is designed perfectly for you. This then enables us to work together on some practical training skills and abilities with your dog.
Phase 3 = Progress & Advancement
Dog training is partnership with another living creature and therefor is not a mechanical route to success. In this phase we will agree some key miles stones for you to work towards and achieve and how we progress beyond them.
What to expect in 1:1 half day training?
During our sessions, we may travel between locations (agreed beforehand) to enable the best assessment. From here we will then spend some time covering theory and putting our plan together before getting into the practical training. You will spend the majority of the time handling and working with your dog under our guidance and we will provide demonstrations and explanations throughout the session.
There will be a blend of Q&A, practical exercises and theory to ensure we can build the right plans and set achievable goals which will enable the learning journey keep progressing.
